Since its emergence, digitalisation has become an issue of major societal relevance, affecting every aspect of people’s lives and opening up entirely new ways of participating in society.

For example, digital communication allows individuals to maintain relationships over long distances, while flexible working arrangements such as remote working can improve work-life balance.

In addition, social networks provide accessible platforms for users to engage in public discourse.

On the other hand, behavioural expectations such as the pressure to be constantly available, exposure to misinformation and the constant threat of being harassed or scammed online are ubiquitous stressors for people, while lack of information can lead to a sense of uncertainty about the future.

Within the Infra4NextGen project, our objective is to gain a general overview of the distribution of digital connectivity, digital skills and associated integration and stress factors in European societies and across different groups of people.

Academic experts are involved in the process for selecting questions to be fielded on the CROss-National Online Survey 3 (CRONOS-3) Panel. They are also developing policy-relevant analysis of existing data on the topic that is being compiled for the inventory of survey items and harmonisation tasks.
