The database provides an entry point to cross-national survey data on these topics. For more detailed information on the data, links to the survey programme’s original documentation material are provided. Please make sure that the original survey documentation is consulted for conscious use of data.
This Data Gateway focuses on the harmonisation of cross-national survey data. Data harmonisation improves the potential for comparability by increasing the database. The criteria of inclusion for measurement instruments listed in this database are as follows:
The item must have measured the same concept similarly across countries by at least two survey programmes within the last 20 years.
“Similar” means there might be variation concerning question-wording or the response scale. Whether or not, or in what way, the data can be harmonised remains the researchers’ decision and is discussed on selected examples in the Harmonisation Toolbox.
Cross-national surveys that are considered for Infra4NextGen Data Harmonisation are:
- European Social Survey (ESS) (including CRONOS forthcoming waves)
- European Values Study (EVS)
- Generations and Gender Survey (GGS)
- The International Social Survey Programme (ISSP)
- Eurobarometer (EB)
- Eurofound: European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS)
